MG 2.2 Require title when creating a new media entry (not file name)

Is there any way to suppress the image file name defaulting into the title field when adding a new image? It's an awful title. I'd rather not display it at all if that is the default value there. 99% of image file names for my use case are straight from someone's camera and are useless, detracting info.

I want it to be required that a title is entered. Is there maybe a template edit? Or an add-on? I can't find one. Seems like a simple thing, but I'm new to XF and maybe it's an easy fix somewhere. :)

I suppose if they are being auto-created from a thread post, there wouldn't be the opportunity to add a title, although a better default might be part of the thread title and user name or something. Maybe.

A comment to keep this idea floating fresh in 2023!

Having hidden the meta dross from the image overlay, I now have nice, uncluttered titles. It sure would be great functionality to compel the two-thirds of members who just upload stock to change the title to something informative and attractive...

Is there a way to do a small edit to remove this auto-fill function? I also don't want people to start uploading photos to the gallery and leave names such as IMG12345.jpg as the photo title.

I modified a template to enforce this, although it's not very useful on my site as nobody uploads to the Media gallery directly. But it does work.

In template xfmg_media_add_macros

Find:

Code:
<xf:textboxrow name="{$namePrefix}[title]" value="{{ mustache('title') }}"

Replace by:

Code:
<xf:textboxrow name="{$namePrefix}[title]" value="" required="required"

That empties the title field and forces people to insert a title or it won't save.
