XF 2.3 Recent issue: all new registrants are showing same IP address

Hello everyone,

We manually approve each person who registers for our forum. One of the things we check is IP address. We're interested in seeing if people are located where they say they are located. IP address isn't 100% reliable, but it works much of the time. It's been a helpful way to screen out spammers.

However, in the last few weeks, everyone who has registered is showing the same IP address: 144.208.71.33. Some of the people who are registering are clearly people we would approve and some are people/bots that we reject. The IP address also seems to be related to InMotion Hosting, which is the web hosting company that we use for our forum.

Question: is there anything I might have accidentally changed when making updates to our XF installation that might be causing this problem?

Here's an example:

This is done by your host.

similar issues for this guy:
Turns out everyone is having the same IP, IP is hosts one, turns out to be proxy for anti ddos (masking thingy). I am aware this is not much related with you guys. However, I am sure some of you probably came across this issue. In my case this happened after changing my DNS and server location with same Host however.

Not a Xenforo thing. The first step would be to enquire from your host why or how IP addresses you are receiving are being masked.

It can be due to security. can be anti ddos ?

Not all hosts do it.

Update: this is all fixed. Thank you, @Digital Doctor for the suggestion.

Turns out that a few week ago, cPanel automatically attempted to upgrade mod_remoteIP, but it was uninstalled in the attempt. cPanel did recently experience a bug in their newest version 128, which removed some addon features by mistake.

The tech support team at my web hosting company, InMotion Hosting, reinstalled mod_remoteIP so my team can see IP addresses once again.

Problem fixed!
