I have a linode 1024 with nginx proxying to apache with APC. On this installation I am running two forums, vb4 and XF.
I loaded each forumhome (basic VB style) 10 times, and used the Net panel in firebug to time the pageloads.

From this basic test, I conclude that on average, XF Beta loads in 84.7% of the time taken by VB4.06 on the same server.
