XF 2.0 Real IP Address always recorded?

I'm new to XF2, coming from VB4, and I noticed during some testing that even when I'm using a VPN, XF2 still records my real IP address.

This is a very nice feature for admins since it makes it harder for banned members to return, but I'm trying to figure out how it works.

Coming from VB4 we had an addon that tried to detect if an IP was a VPN or not. I'm wondering if we still need a system like this for XF2. Will the real IP always be recorded?

Did you clear your cookies and relog into XF2 after activating your VPN?

No, I just turned it on and logged in. Is the IP stored in a cookie?

There is something like cookie login, which ties your IP to the seesion cookie, yes. At least it was like this in 1.5, but I assume, nothing has changed for this in XF2.
