We discourage users from posting replies that say "use the search". But common questions have always plagued forums. One thing came to mind to try and quell this - give users a quick way to post links to threads where the answers to the question live. One thought here is to add to the "insert link" feature and add "from Bookmarks", which would bring up your list of Bookmarked threads that could be inserted - or instead of Bookmarks it could be a list of your most viewed threads or threads you've liked, or maybe popular threads in the forum.... Something that allows the user to quickly locate heavily referenced threads and insert it into the reply box.

Nice idea. Like adding a drop-down field just above the URL field, with the drop-down containing the users bookmarked topics?

Exactly. Give users more tools to post answers using their bookmarks and maybe other sources like their subscribed threads, their most viewed threads, etc. That’s one of the biggest complaints in forums. This will give those who complain about it more tools to deal with it.
