XF 1.2 Question about importing from SimpleMachines after a Xenforo board is set up

I have a question about importing posts from a SimpleMachines forum into Xenforo after the new Xenforo installation has been set up. Basically, can this be done? In other words, can I set up the new xenforo board, have people start posting in it to test it out, and then, if everyone approves, import a bunch of posts from the old board? Will that mess anything up or delete the new posts?

Just curious as to the proper procedure to follow.

Oh, and how about if the new test users exist on the old forum and they've signed up to xenforo with the same user names? Will the import mess anything up with their new posts?
