XF 2.2 Promotion comes too late?

Imagine to register!
Question: man or woman?
Promotion:
if man => group man
if woman => group woman

Is it true, that this promotion is done by cron and not directly with the registering?

For me this solution to have man/woman makes problems, while i need that information immediately not after x minutes.

When people comes to see a forum „for woman only“, but needs to wait till promotion is done, they are away and maybe never come back.

I think so.

Your question can only be custom user field displayed on registration form, no? So, since it is part of the profile, it should work instantly.
