XF 2.0 Private forums. How to have a Mod grant access to another member

Hi all,
I have a forum that I've made private with an accompanied user group with the correct permissions.
Right now, if I want to grant a user access, I have to go into the ACP and manually add the new group to that user.

Is there a way to allow a moderator to fill this role or another way to set this up so it's not a Administrators task in the ACP.

I don't want just anyone to be able to add themselves through a user group promotion. I need them to go through a vetting process for approval. Maybe set up a user group promotion where the member can request access, but it needs to be approved for the promotion to become active? Is this possible?

Any ideas?
