XF 2.1 Presence of a proxy.php file in XF?

Hi all,

By looking at my backlinks I have found a strange proxy.php file located here :

https://www.mydomains.com/proxy.php

And used this way :
https://www.mydomain.com/proxy.php?image=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ab/Grey_Star.gif&hash=9506f8058f31e58bbb5a7e8aa9d8655b

Could you please confirm that this file is a part of XF files?

Yes, that is a standard XF file.

OK, perfect, I thought that my website had been hacked! ;-)
Do you have an idea why some people could use this php file this way :
https://www.mydomain.com/proxy.php?image=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ab/Grey_Star.gif&hash=9506f8058f31e58bbb5a7e8aa9d8655b
What's the purpose to pass an url through this file?
