I have the idea of turning a sub forum into a premium forum.
How do I set so that only paying members can access to it?
I understand I have to create a group, but what about the link to the payment to be added to it?

You create the group and give that group permission to the sub forum. The sub forum should have private ticked. (at the top of Node permissions)

Then create a user upgrade that adds that group when they pay. You do this in ACP>Users>user upgrades

User Access to upgrades is via their account settings.

Yes. This is exactly the way we have done it on one of the forums I manage.

I mean I'd like the forum to be visible to guest and users but only the premium members to actually be able to reply

That can also be done with permissions - just set them up as you wish for each user group.

The way I did it was to set up a new category. The first forum describes what the category was for and how to purchase a user upgrade to obtain access to the private forums: this is visible to all so regular members know what they're missing. All other forums in that category require the paid user upgrade to get access (the upgrade automatically adds the member to a secondary user group that gives access).

The same thing often can more or less be achieved with or without being private. It's just the private is often quicker and simpler.

But for what you want you can have a (non private) thread and allow registered an guests to view the node, but disallow post thread and reply. (inheriting the normal forum permissions for everything else if that is what you want)




Then allow your premium group to post thread and reply.

One more question: where's the the subscription link visible fo the users that want to become premium?

You can add a link to the navigation, in a notice, an ad template, the forum description, etc.

It's up to you.

Yes of course, either way can work. The method you choose would depend on what you want to do exactly. For very simple see the forum or not, private can be the simplest. For more varied permissions, unticked and set as required.

Agreed but not for payments. ticking that box just removes the link.
