Post & Thread Highlight Pro

Post & Thread Highlight Pro [Paid] v1.9.1

No permission to buy ($25.00)
@Wutime Since upgrading from v1.7.2 to v1.8.0 XF2.3.6 this error is generated when an error is generated. If I disable the addon XF captures the error with my standard error message. Thoughts? How can I redownload v1.7.2?
Yes, this explains why I never ran into this issue locally, it's only generated if there's an error on the thread. My local setup rarely has these types of scenarios because it's a clean install. I'll have to consider this in the future to ensure I catch more edge cases.

I'll release the update now.

Does this add-on have the capability of showing ONLY highlighted posts? We have a lot of noise in our technical forum and the thought is that we can highlight good, relevant posts on a highly technical topic, and members could filter the list to show only those posts while viewing a thread.

Yes. Highlighted posts can be toggled on/off so that only highlighted posts in a thread are visible.

My forum has hundreds of vehicle Build threads, many of which are 10+ years running and have hundreds of replies. I'd like the feature to only be available to specific prefixes (or to other threads by a moderator override).

Is there a limit to the total per thread? ie: 20 max or ?

Just to confirm:

There's no limit per-se. You as the administrator determine which usergroups have permission to "highlight posts", and separately, "highlight threads".
  • Are you wanting to give general users the ability to highlight? (and limit them to a maximum of 20 posts per thread)
  • Or, you want a permission for any usergroup that can be set to limit highlights per thread?

Regarding prefixed threads, this is probably doable, but I wanted to clarify something first. Is this request meant for regular usergroups, or only for moderators and administrators?

Thread prefixes are already controlled by permissions when you create or edit them. Because of that, I want to understand whether highlighting should automatically follow those existing rules. In other words, if a user has permission to use a given thread prefix and also has permission to highlight, should highlighting simply be allowed in those threads?

Alternatively, are you looking for a global setting where you explicitly choose which thread prefixes are allowed to contain highlighted posts, regardless of individual usergroup permissions?

A global setting where PrefixA includes the Highlighting feature automatically. In my case, I see this used for Build prefixes to highlight milestone progress points, and with Event prefixes to highlight key posts. In both of these cases, only the Thread Starter (or moderator/admin) should have the ability to Highlight.

I would likely not implement the Highlight anywhere else.

My thoughts behind the limit: prevent users from highlighting EVERY post in a thread (we all know how members operate) ;)

IMO, the starter should have the ability to highlight any post in a thread they started.
Okay, I got it working and will upload the update.

You just need to give whatever usergroup a "curation" permission so they can curate the highlights in their own threads.

In the add-on options you can limit curation to a maximum number of posts per thread, as well as enter thread prefix ID's if you want to lock things down to just those thread prefixes.

Installed, thank you :)

So, I have this checkbox selected "THREAD: Add "Show Highlights / All Posts" toggle button on threads with highlighted posts".... I believe "highlights only" should appear ONLY when there are highlighted posts in a thread. However, it appears at the top of every thread.

It appears a post needs to be "edited" in order for the "highlight post" option to appear. I do not see an "inline button" near the report, edit, etc links below every post.

I have my admin account with all 4 usergroup resource checkboxes selected, so I assumed I'd have all the powers :)

Yeah, it's always been that way. I'll see about updating it to only display the "Show Highlights" toggle if highlights actually exist for the thread; wanted to save the extra query but from a UI perspective it's worth the extra query.

The "inline button" was added for "curated highlights" only.

If you don't see the "inline button" it's because you didn't start the thread, and therefore you're not a curator, and therefore require edit post permissions to access the highlight features.

For mods/admins it was always an "edit" to highlight because it wasn't something done very often... whereas from what I gathered, you have users that will need to run through lots of past threads to highlight things, plus, your users will NOT have the ability to "edit posts" of other users, hence the inline toggle for those users.

Yes, you do have all the powers. Note, the "inline button" will only appear if you own the thread because currently it's only for "thread starters curating highlights" on the threads they own.

I'll see about extending the inline button powers for both "users curating" and "admin/mods" that have the appropriate permissions.

@woody, I think that last update addresses all the things we discussed in our last post. Note, if you want to lock admins/mods/users to only be able to make highlights in your "prefix restricted threads" you'll want to use the option and set it to "Everyone".
