Possible to keep certain user groups from creating threads in forums?

I don't know exactly how to search for this one and my rudimentary Xen-Fu is coming up blank.

What I'd like to do is create a forum where mods and admins can create threads and posts, but all members and non-members can only view and post in threads, but not create them. Is something like this possible?

Revoke those permissions for those groups/nodes:

Admin CP -> Applications -> Display Node Tree -> Permissions

I read that and I still can't figure out the math on this one. I don't want to revoke them from the node, and I don't want to make it private since I want everyone to be able to see it, I just want to restrict certain behaviors in this particular node.

Wait, hang on, when I click on the permission for the node, is that an individual node permission, or the GLOBAL permissions setting?

The permissions in the node tree only affect individual nodes.

You know what I was doing? Clicking on 'Group Info' instead of clicking on the name of the group itself, and Group Info was taking me to the global permissions. Every time I'd look at the tree structure I could tell I wasn't in the individual node. Hope in an update they make that a bit clearer.
