"Thanks!" is less than 50 chars... and instead of character limit, how about word limit? More efficient I guess...

People would still complain about it.
I'm still not a fan of the system the way it is currently.
I don't think it's the number of characters that people don't like, but that there's a limit at all. It’s not that it's difficult to write a long review, it’s about being forced to do it when it may not be necessary and you didn’t intend to in the first place.
Lawrence's suggestion from the last thread about this still sits well with me, but I think maybe 4 stars or less.
I feel getting the quality feedback on poor reviews is more important than glowing reviews. A 5 star rating with no actual 'review' is often sufficient for positive feedback.
I disagree with this. If I'm faced with 2 add ons that provide the same functionality I'll be much more likely to go with the one that has ten short 5 star reviews, than one with a single long review paragraph.
All that tell me is that it worked really well for one person. Sure there may be some good info in that one long review. But much of the time all I care about is whether it does what it says in the description and works. If 10 people have given it 5 stars, then I'm more inclined to believe it's worthwhile investigating further as it at least 10 people have downloaded it and had success with it.
Plus many of the resources here are small tweaks or guides, not complex apps. They really don't warrant long reviews.

Brogan speaks for XenForo and these words are very clear, there will be no decrease in the number of characters.
Why try to discuss something then it would seem that the rules are already clearly defined?

If you are going to say "buggy" then have the decency to say "I found a bug when doing this or that". Real simple. Reviews shouldn't be done by lazy people.
Not everyone is going to go wade through 250 pages of a discussion thread. I usually do - but I'm the first to admit I'm abnormal.

I have stopped rating resources because it wastes my time saying something which in my opinion is all I want to say, then trying to think of a way to say the same thing slightly differently to fill up the requisite number of characters.
I also think this forum sells xenforo best if it a truly default installation, inasmuch as this is possible.
You don't need 150 character limit to accomplish that, a much shorter but more reasonable limit (e.g. 50 characters) would do that.
I agree, it is not surprising as it is still too large a limit.
I don't think they would if it was perceived by a large number of people as being reasonable.
A poll would be enlightening, but probably a waste of time if the developers really are saying it will never ever be changed.

I'd like to have a limit at about 50 chars. For people that don't speak english fluently is more difficult to write a review adding more words just to overcome the limit. I've stopped to leave positive reviews since most of the times I'm not able to find all the necessary words to simply state that this addon is very good.

I hope the 50 character limit continues to gain traction. It's a sensible compromise.
150 characters is perfect.
The limit is going not going to change. It started at 250 and is now down to 150. That was the compromise and it seems to be doing just fine as it stands. Mike's response is all we need at this point:
