Is it safe for me to use a 301 redirect set up through my cPanel (server side)? My forum has a landing page (I know I know, I thought it was a good idea at the time o_O ). I'm in the process of switching forum software, so I figure this is a good time.

I want to redirect form the root website: http://example.com/
To this: http://example/community (my current forum address)

Basically, my /community address would act like the traditional index.
