Actually, the full answer is that the original license costs $140.
You receive 12 months of support/updates with the original license and after that point license renewals (12 month period) is $40 and supports ticket submissions and download of latest versions.
You do not have to pay the $40 per year, but you will not be able to access the latest versions nor submit tickets for support. You WILL still be able (as long as your license is in good standing) to participate in the support forum (where a lot of help is obtained) and download the latest version as of time of expiration of your license support period.
You can extend the license at any time after it expires to obtain support and download of latest version ability.
