XF 2.2 Pardon our Interruption - eBay

Is anyone else getting this message when trying to post eBay links to their forums?

Pardon our Interruption

A user reported it yesterday on our forums, I tried to post a link today and got the same. The link itself seems to work but the 'title' of the link becomes 'Pardon our Interruption' instead of a description of the item

It has been reported on eBay's help forum but specifically related to Facebook

Here's a link that was posted on our forum (to test here) ...

This also shows the issue

I've tried that and the following settings:

1731234228218.webp

Show the following when the post is viewed in 'edit' ...

1731234303627.webp

However returns a blank when viewed normally...

AFAICT the media site seems ok and I'd expect it to work as desired. No idea why the link doesn't show; One would need to inspect the page in a browser to have any idea. I recommend that you post a link to a public thread in your forums where there's one of those invisible links, someone may be able to diagnose it for you.

I logged a ticket with ebay partner customer support on Monday which has since been passed onto their engineering team.

The same issue was reported previously with eBay links within Facebook. This can be seen here:

I've had feedback from 'customer support'

Hello ###,

Thank you for your patience.

I have just heard back from our Engineering team and unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about this issue on our side. This error message pops up when the eBay website notices increased incoming traffic that resembles bot and crawler activity.

They recommend taking these steps:

  • Clear cache & cookies, try different browsers, update the browser to the newest version.
  • Ensure you have enabled JavaScript in your web browser.
  • Turn off any third-party browser plugins that may interfere with JavaScript.
  • If you are using VPN, try accessing eBay without the use of a VPN.
  • You may also run an antivirus software on your device to ensure there are no unauthorized third party programs, viruses running behind the scenes.

If this doesn't help, there could also be something about the platform you are using for your forum that makes eBay think you are a bot. I suggest reaching out to XenForo to see if anything can be done on their side.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
####

Your Comment:

technical-problem

Whenever a user posts a link to an ebay listing on our Forum (XenForo software) instead of the link title or content displaying a meta title Pardon Our Interruption display s instead.
This is a recent occurrence and happens even when I use EPN generated links.

I understand there was the same issue with Facebook linking as reported here: https: community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Technical-Issues/Pardon-Our-Interruption/td-p/7696271

Could you please advise re our forum issue

Regards, #####

@Kier @Jeremy P - Is this something that Xenforo support could look into?

Great, thanks eBay. Way to screw up your free advertising!

I did try using the censor filter to change 'Pardon our Interruption' to 'eBay Link' but that didn't work as it looks like 'P our I' is generated at eBay's end, not on the forum itself

Yes, I did exactly same thing! I think some way of turning unfurl="false" would be the way to go...
