Lack of interest Option to start a new "direct message" at top of list (header?)

I checked the new version this site is running and the option to start a new conversation, now seemingly called "direct message" remains in the footer. When you have a number of messages and you want to create a new one it seems like a poor UX to have to go to the bottom to create a new DM. I suggest putting a + button on the header, right side or the text at the top to create new messages.
