One of those days...

I have found Avast the best free solution to fix all of the things mentioned above. It has this boot time scanner which you can set so that it starts scanning your hard drive before windows loads. So no virus, trojan malware has a chance of loading into memory and they all get caught and busted. Plus it's real time shield is also pretty solid and I have never had a virus survive on my computer. The best part is that it's free for a whole year once you register.

It's interesting also how I found Avast. I was once infected by a virus which had already loaded itself in memory and my AVG had failed. So then i tried everything... yes everything... hijackthis, malware bytes, norton, nod32 and the problem was that since the virus was already loaded i couldn't get most of the programs to work. Then i found avast which does a boot time scan before windows and thought of heck, lemme give this a try before i format everything and it did the trick. Haven't installed any other security system since then.

Yeah Avast is another good one. I had it running at my business many moons ago, pretty much took care of itself and never any real worries there.

Most of the free AV systems are so slow they are not worth anything to a user, but if that is all you can afford is free then.....

Unfortunately that is not true. You have to subscribe, but it is free, you can check the results of all vendors here: http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archive/results?display=vendors In fact most spyware removal specialists prefer the free versions as people are more likely to use them. And most of the footprints are smaller than the hogs such as the suites. Don't put down something that is free just because it is free.

Wow! According to that, Coranti is the freaking bomb! And at $49 a year it might be worth it.

The chart they show from http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/latest_comparative/index:

I have used 'free AV' Elizabeth and I would rather get off the internet than use them again, if you like them that is fine with me.

IF you look at this carefully, AVG, Avast, and Avira FREE are between the 90 & 100%, Avira PRO (the PAID version is lower ranked than the free version)
Sophos is between 70-80% so is Norton (Symantec), CA Business is below 60%, MacAfee is between 70-80%...but then again, ESET is almost at the top (Nod32, and it's one of the best) Kaspersky is sitting right on 90% (below the free ones but still not bad).

If paid is the only way you want to go, fine but don't rain on others parade just because they opt for a free solution. Free is a GOOD way to go according to the industry experts.
