XF 1.2 Offline Access for a Non-staffing group?

My XenForo forum is currently offline, awaiting a huge overhaul that's expected to take at least a year to complete. During that time, I'd like for a few of the current members to be able to be beta testers and perticipants in the redesign.

Is there a way to set these non-staffing members up so that they have board-offline access, without any of the staffing abilities?

What do you mean by offline?

Put it behind .htaccess password protected auth and give the login credentials to those you wish to have access.

When you have the options set to board offline. The admin can still access it offline (still able to log in and see everything), but nobody else can. Is there any way to give specific members that ability as well without making them a staff member?

Only administrators can access closed boards.

The only way is as I explained above.
