Add-on Need help with responsive formatting for a "recent threads" widget

I have a widget that displays "Recent Threads" content.

In wide layouts, it will display posterAvatar, main, stats, lastPost.
In narrow layouts it will just display posterAvatar, main.

Right now it is deciding "wide" and "narrow" layout conditions based on the responsive settings for the browser page width.

What I WANT it to do is to decide "wide" and "narrow" based on the width of the column in which the widget is located.

I am really new at all of this. Can someone point me in the right direction?

If the widget is from an add-on then you will need to ask in the add-on thread.

It will likely just be a media query that needs to be edited but we don't have access to add-on code.
