XF 2.0 My imported smilies are all broken?

I just finished setting up a test localhost site.
Deleted all the old smilies.
Then imported from local disk, all the .gif smilies my old vb4 site uses.
But this is how they show up even after rebooting the host server.
Any suggestions?

What is the url of those smilies? Can you find them in that place on your webserver?
How about the file permissions?

There is no URL. I copied my original forum to hard drive.
Then used WinSCP to copy the smilies to /opt/htdocs/images/smilies.
Verified permissions on each smiley is set to rw/r/r.
Then used the import wizard in XenForo smilies section to import those images.

I gave up on my virtual machine and went with Scotch Box instead for my environment.
And smilies import is working fine using the path:
styles\default\xenforo\smilies\labsmilies
