Moderating Categories but not albums?

I'm new to Xenforo and still grokking the permissions and their interplay, so maybe I've missed something.

Is it possible to grant a usergroup upload access to a category, but require the entries to be moderated, while still allowing them to upload without moderation to their own albums?

Not currently, no.

There is a permission that controls whether media bypasses moderation but it affects media added to categories or albums.
