Microsoft Edge White Screen

I was told to report this bug here.

Some of my members use Microsoft Edge. In fact some have the link added to their task bar in Edge. Upon opening our forum the page is white unless refreshed, then it works. I did many things to try to fix this (all the usual) and nothing worked. I then checked the xenforo site and it does the same thing. I opened a ticked and we have concluded together that this is an Edge bug. Paul suggested perhaps xen programmers can do a work around for now. Hopefully this gets fixed soon,

Thanks
Jerry

This seems related to the Chromium 142 regressions we’re seeing on Android. Chrome, WebView and Edge share the same engine, so navigation/first-paint issues tend to appear across all of them. Since it also happens on XF Community, it’s almost certainly a Chromium-side bug rather than anything XF-specific.

We confirmed the blank white screen in Microsoft Edge was caused by the PWA service worker. Edge kept using a stale cached service worker whether PWA was on or off, which caused the forum to load as a blank page until refreshed.

The breakthrough was testing /?_edge_test=1, which loaded normally every time and confirmed the issue was the stuck PWA service worker, not XenForo itself. To fix it, I disabled PWA and temporarily replaced the service worker with an unregister script, purged the CDN cache, and then restored the file. Once the old service worker cleared, Edge stopped showing the blank screen.
So the root cause was Edge aggressively caching the PWA service worker I think (but maybe wrong). Anyway its now resolved for us with PWA off (I dont really care about PWA anyway).

I noticed this while using the PWA app on Android with default chrome browser. Sometimes a blank page while browsing.
Hi, maybe that can help you...

Microsoft Edge is the problem here.
I'd use a different browser if i were you.
Even if you've got some stubborn members who don't wish to change browsers, i'd say this. Changing to a better browser will have better things for you.
My own parents who are elderly had to change browsers because they were getting the same issue with other sites.

Thanks.

Thanks. We dont use cloudflare. However we do use Bunny CDN and I did think that was the issue at first, so I completely removed that CDN and it made no difference, so I eliminated that at the beginning.Thank you for the link though.
