XF 2.3 Member not able to use edit tools when posting

How to fix? This member has all of the edit tools above the post edit box grayed out, not usable. For a new post, or editing an old one.

Member's permissions are normal. Test user with identical permissions has use of the edit tools. And the edit tools don't seem to be part of the on/off permissions in any case.

Permissions analyzer also looks normal for this member.

What could be wrong and how to fix? Thanks!

Looks like they have "Toggle BBCodes" on. Click the three vertical dots and turn off the option. (sorry for the big screen shot, I'm on my phone)

Click the three vertical dots:

Deselect BBCode option:

That was confusing. I was looking all over post #1 for a circle to click. Then your link took me to post #2. But didn't mention -- the circle with the check is alongside the post on the right, kind of gray-ish. I'm not usually ever looking over there. 😁

Actually I'm going to make a new post adding some clarifying details I found in my own forum. Thank you so much for answering the question! 😊

So the tip with the screenshots in the second post got us started! Although I think the arrow was indicating the three dots, in fact it also pointed to the real answer -- the right side document icon with "Preview".

Clicking the Preview box is a toggle switch
to view a 'finished' version of the post, as it is at the moment, still in edit and without posting. Doing so takes away the edit tools. But click Preview again, and it reverts the post back to editing and the edit tools.

It seems that if you don't revert certain edit functions back to normal, they may stay that way for future new posts. That seems to have been what my forum member did. But then we didn't know how that had come about.

The reason for this handy Preview function is, in fact, that the three dots lead to the </> icon, allowing inserting other code into the post. Then, to see how what you inserted looks before posting, the Preview button is your friend.

So that's how it works. Quite an interesting answer with leads to some cool editing features.

Snipped from phil's first post, showing the way ...
