XF 2.2 Mass Email Sending

I have developed an email problem. I suspect the site has not been sending emails for a while possibly due to an SMTP problem. I believe I corrected it, and suddenly there are thousands of emails being sent. This could be a backlog stored somewhere, or/and many may have been duplicated. I am not sure.
Is there somewhere where emails are stored until they are sent, where I might be able to delete them all?
Then I still have to fix whatever problem has created this The site is being shut down due to exceeding email allowances enforced by the automated server.

Queued emails are in the xf_mail_queue table.

I am not finding the emails in a fashion that I might be able to work with them, or they are all gone. I seem to have managed to stop them, or what it was sending finished.
I am starting to turn things back to where I think they should be and watching for a problem, hopefully something I did in the process fixed it or at least I will be able to find direction to the problem.

I just found out they turned of my php send function, not getting to a fix

If the table is empty then all queued emails have been handed off to the server by XF.

Actually, it's the xf_mail_queue table you want to check.

Here is a response from my host trying to guide me. It appears my problem may be a bot attack!?!? They are suggesting I protect the index with a captcha? I have never visited a forum index page protected with a captcha that I know of. I am uncertain or just plain don't understand. Those appear to be just routine crawlers, and beside which cannot generate any emails just by indexing pages. Your host is engaging in silliness.
