Mannn why am I blocked from my site?

  1. They only 'hijack' search results because typing searches into the address bar isn't properly implemented in your browser to pass searches to search engines. No such hijacking in Chromium.
  2. Never had a random redirect.
  3. Never seen them have security trouble, on the contrary: http://www.opendns.com/technology/dnscrypt/
  4. Never seen any ad injected on a page.
To each his own but as far as public DNS goes I would figure Google to be worse considering their business model is around profiting off data they collect from you. *Not saying OpenDNS doesn't collect data from queries but I can't really see them building a better profile of you than Google, and anyone concerned with that should be using a VPN anyways.
Google collects only what you search using Google.com, a few things via cookies, and of course Google Analytics. A little more if you use Google Chrome.

But all of that can be opt out of or avoided. :)

OpenDNS collects all your internet usage. Everything. And there is no opting out.

Trust me on the security by the way. Their DNS servers are not known for security. Don't care what "they" advertise

as far as public DNS goes

I opt out of those things anyways, don't use Google for search, and use Chromium instead of Chrome.

Feel free to back up your security claims. I'll keep them in the back of my mind but unless you can provide a source I'm a bit reluctant to completely trust them. Plus even if they have had security issues I don't see how ISP-provided DNS is any better at the end of the day.

If you know of a better DNS option I'm all ears.

^^ Some of them are better than others.

Tor https://www.torproject.org makes for a good alternative. Uses both a different DNS and also different IP Proxy (2 birds, 1 stone).
