I cleared my cache in firefox and chrome, flushed my dns on windows command prompt on my pc and flushed my dns in terminal of my imac and unplugged both my modem and router for two minutes

Still can't get on the site. It won't pull up.

I was able to view my site from the phone

Background. Was working on this: http://xenforo.com/community/resources/better-blogs.1055/

So I had to play around with the site's dns entries and stuff to see if I could get vanity urls working Ex. http://username.8thos.com

Well anyway, now I can't get in the site but everyone else can. My host claims my IP isn't blocked.

Could they be wrong?

Yes and no.

Probably their DNS server cannot translate your site's IP.
Can you ask someone from the same ISP if they can see your site.
Big ISP's have more than one DNS server so the answer can be that they can see.
Provided you have a dynamic IP address from your ISP, switch off your router for a few minutes then on.

Yeah it's definitely Mediacom then. They have a history of sucking. My host told me to try this: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

Can you use your phone with Wi-Fi from your modem/router?
Try it.
Can you see your site? You should not be able to see it.
Ah yes... looks like I was using the cellular network. Wasn't paying attention. I'm very sleepy. But yeah... definitely my DNS.

Anyway I followed Google's directions and I can view my site now YAAAY!!!!

Thanks but I'll pass. My host said ' OpenDNS does some filtration which can cause odd issues that are near impossible to track down without the experience doing so.'

I would not recommend OpenDNS

Hijack search results
Random Redirects
Hacking ---- Their security is highly lacking
Random ad injection

A few other thoughts come to mind, but those are the key points.

  1. They only 'hijack' search results because typing searches into the address bar isn't properly implemented in your browser to pass searches to search engines. No such hijacking in Chromium.
  2. Never had a random redirect.
  3. Never seen them have security trouble, on the contrary: http://www.opendns.com/technology/dnscrypt/
  4. Never seen any ad injected on a page.
To each his own but as far as public DNS goes I would figure Google to be worse considering their business model is around profiting off data they collect from you. *Not saying OpenDNS doesn't collect data from queries but I can't really see them building a better profile of you than Google, and anyone concerned with that should be using a VPN anyways.
