Mandrill sending delays

They just confirmed it.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back in touch. Currently we are still seeing some intermittent delays when delivering to Gmail addresses. Our delivery team is avidly investigating the underlying cause of these issues and are working towards making any necessary adjustments needed to mitigate these behaviors.

We were able to take a closer look at the delivery logs for your account, and can see that while overall delivery appears to be successful, there are some cases where delivery to gmail.com is taking longer than expected. In regards to the empty SMTP message that can display when selecting a message's status, this can appear for a couple of different reasons, such as when Mandrill has queued and processed a message for delivery, but has not received an SMTP response from the recipient server. Additionally, this can appear if the message was returned but Mandrill was not able to classify the message as having bounced in order to expose those details within your account.

If you could reply back with an example address for a recipient who is displaying this message, I would be more than happy to take a closer peek into this specific instance.

Looking forward to hearing back from you, and thank you again for your patience during this investigation.

I did face some delay around the time you posted this. I thought was just my internet haha. I kept refreshing my Gmail but I didn't get the emails I was expecting.

I change from BD mail addon and directly using their SMTP into Email Options.

We use the SMTP method via XF's core, I didn't see the need to run an add-on to do anything differently, I use Mandrill's callback and use an internal tool for any bounced email addresses – your screenshot doesn't show any encryption method, btw.

Well you don't see the need because you use an internal tool... who can't use it have to use a third party addon like BDMails.
Your internal tool update xf users state according to hard or soft bounces? Can you share it with us?

Just curious why didn't you use port 465 and ssl? I mean is there a reason you favour tls than ssl? :)

Hi,

Thanks for following up. With 25, 587, or 2525 you can use TLS. With 465 you can use SSL. You're not required to use TLS or SSL, the choice is up to you. For more information, check out: http://help.mandrill.com/entries/21738477

Please let us know if you have any more questions.

So I just choose tls :)

Did the delays stop after switching to just SMTP and not using bdMails?

Lots of users complaining recently regarding slow e-mails, some up to 30 minutes slow.

If its an issue just isolated due to using bdMails I'll take it up with the author, thus need your confirmation.

Just send PC from gmail to gmail via forum (using Mandrill) and waiting 5 minutes already, but no email. In Mandrill I can see it's send.

So I guess there are delays.
Where in Mandrill can you see if an email is sent, in my activity log I only see delivered times, and if I click on delivered, I get the response no smptp events.
