Making more of your forum on mobile

I'm not interested in tapatalk app, but I am interested in an addon i think i remember reading about. It somehow produces alerts on iphone? Would this be an onscreen notification for new replies etc and conversations?

Great, thanks. How does the phone know to send notifications to the user by just going to the website! I guess it doesn't and the user has to do something more than just go to our forum right?

They have to install an application also.
