When I clicked on Helpful Links ... I expected Links that would be helpful to me a resident of MV.
However, I got something called BB Codes ? Smilies ? and Trophies ? Trophies for what ? I'm thinking this site is weird !

Solution: make the Helpful Links tab a SUBtab of the Forum Tab.

or get rid of it ? does anyone use it ... ever ?

lol I have plans for that tab. Just haven't had time to do it yet.

I really like what you have done Peggy

One thing that I have noticed is if you hover your mouse over your tabs after viewing the drop down then the text is very hard to read. (click on shoutbox, hover over drop down then hover over main tab description to reproduce)

Thanks guys.

@ Brett - yep I noticed that a long time ago, but didn't bother with it because the name is at the top of the dropdown menu anyway.

Ahh its one of those things that a user will hardly ever see, I only saw it by accident because I let my mouse sit while I did something else, Naturally I thought that I would let you know.

I'm in talks with one of XF's best designers to create a custom theme for MVT in the next couple of months or so.
I love Flexile, but feel that it's being over-used, and I want a more unique design for my site.

Have you considered affiliate links with local companies? I noticed Sweeney Auto Group in your footer, but upon clicking it I also noticed that they didn't have you on their site.

That's just an example, really. I asked Jim (of Sweeney Cars) if I could link to his site, as an example of what would go there. He follows MVT on Twitter.
But to answer your question, yes I have thought about it. But, I'm hesitant to ask, until the site has more members and actual activity. I don't think I would care to place my link on a site with no real activity. But maybe I'm wrong?

Affiliate links create activity, but yeah a lot of companies will want activity before allowing you to. It's a vicious circle, but it can't hurt to ask.

This next Sunday, I'm going to the grand opening of the second location, of one of our areas more popular restaurants. It's a mexican reataurant and cantina, Casa Ramirez.
Supposed to be a big deal, and I've talked with the owner (they follow MVT on twitter), and he invited me to come up there. I placed the event on MVT using XenAtendo, and will take pics at the opening to place on MVT as well. I'm hoping this will bring a bit of activity.

Hi Peggy. Regional forums are tough. I have one, I know. Maybe you have already done this (didn't see any though), but a small suggestion would be to set up a couple of rss feeds from the local news. It will generate a little more content, thus increasing your search engine exposure for topics relating to your area.

I've been thinking about that too.

Also, I had a conversation with someone last night who owns a regional forum in Indiana. We talked about setting up a network of regional forums.
Interested?

Heck yeah! Lol
Very kewl. It would entail linking to each others sites. Probably in the footer.
Hey you never know who on our forum used to live in your area, or knows something about or someone who lives in, your area, or vice versa. When I lived in Florida, I used to post on an Alabama forum all the time because I used to live in Alabama, and have family there.
If someone were to start a Florida forum, I'd probably post on that too, since I'm a native Floridian. :) But I'd be even more apt to post on a South Florida forum, since that's where I was raised.

Just let me know. I think it is a great idea. We could have a central place to update the HTML code to plug into other regional communities via a page (other site owners could copy and paste the code to create a new page) or something. It will likely grow to big for a footer link.

It takes 3 clicks to get even close to the content of the site, what it IS all about.
The frontpage (portal) doesn't provide content, it's just additional content.
The forum is just an overview, not content.

It's how things work, I get that, but it makes me click away from sites.
