XF 2.1 Lots of banned users keep logged in all the time

I have many banned spammers logged in all the time. It's annoying, aesthetically unpleasant (with lots of crossed username in members online block), and not sure if has any significant impact on the bandwidth (occasionally, I get max_num_users reached error in php).

If I discourage all the banned members, will it help the case?

First of all if I'm not too much mistaken, it's only admins and staff who can see the strikethrough markup.

Second, banning them doesn't log them out so on subsequent visits they're going to appear to be logged in. Also, if they were logged out at banning they can still log in.

They're better than the fake users addon - looks like organic traffic! Embrace it!
