Hello everyone,
I’m not talking about the Linux you use on your servers. I mean as an end-user on your personal computer — do you use Linux? And which distro do you use?

I’ve tried many distros, and I ended up fully switching to Zorin OS, which I really liked.

I’m curious to hear about your choices as well.

I tried at one time but ended up back in Windows because too many of the apps I rely on aren't available on Linux and I'd didn't like having to do workarounds just to get things to work.

I don’t know exactly when you last tried Linux, but things have changed a LOT in recent years.
Modern distros have reached a point where the end user almost doesn't need to touch anything technical anymore.
  • Most apps now have native Linux versions,
  • The rest work flawlessly with Flatpak, Snap, or Wine/Proton,
  • And the software stores are full of high-quality open-source alternatives that often perform better and use fewer resources than their Windows counterparts.
Linux today is nothing like the Linux from years ago. It’s fast, stable, customizable, and genuinely user-friendly.
If you ever try again with something like Zorin OS, Fedora, or Linux Mint, you’ll be surprised how smooth the experience has become.

I run Mint Cinnamon as my main desktop OS for personal use (work is an MS shop so Windows everywhere except a few special purpose servers). My needs aren't that complex, though. I have LibreOffice as an office suite, GIMP for image editing, and Firefox for browsing and web-based work (like maintaining my XF site). Oh, and Obsidian for note-taking and certain documents. Generally quite happy with it at this point. The laptop I use still has Windows 11 set up as a dual boot since my wife borrows it sometimes and prefers Windows. However, I rarely boot Windows myself save to go in and update it periodically so I don't have a raft of updates to do when she asks for it.
