Link Directory (LD) [Deleted]

Ooops ...
I deleted "Test Category" at https://xenmade.com/admin.php?linkdirectory-categories/ leaving only ' Sub Cat 1'. Now /linkdirectory/ only shows the links (5 of them) in Sub Cat 1 - all others seem to have disappeared. When deleting categories, and links are assigned to it, should probably be asked which category they should be assigned to (or automatically assigned to hierarchical category above it).

Hmmm .... if a link has a corresponding discussion thread, and then you delete the link, would be ideal if the discussion thread was automatically posted to saying the link entry has been removed (and perhaps an admin option so that the discussion thread is also closed?).

Could we please have an admin option to not have images in the sidebar? I tried setting the image size to 0(zero),

open ld_sidebar.css from your style and put in the following at the end of the template:

Code:
.threadListItem .ldIcon {
    display: none;
}

.threadListItem .messageInfo {
    margin-left: 0;
}

That's all.

Extra bonus points .... if admin option is that OG:Image is defaulted, wouldn't it be great that once the user enters the URL, the OG meta is immediately retrieved to pull back (and put into the add link form) the og:image, og:title, and og:description. Automatically filling-in most of the form for the user :)

that is already working.

just enter a URL and leave all other fields blank.
Hit Save and it populates the fields automatically. Hit Save again and you are done.

I think @Mouth is suggesting that it should be filled in with "autofill" the input fields in the very moment after the URL is entered (and valid) – as the data is retrieved in the background through a script...

Of course that would shortcut a few steps and gives the link creator control and immediate edit option before the link is saved.

well, it is not "immediate" autofill (AJAX) as the data from the URL-website need to be retrieved and validated first and foremost.
But it is actually "autofill", as it automatically pulls the data from the website and populates the fields.

Just enter the URL only and leave the "Title Field" and the "Description Field" empty.
Then hit the "Save"-button and you will see that the Title-Field and Description-Field are automatically populated with text.
Then you just need to correct the number of letters to be less than 140 characters (in case it is more than 140 char) and hit the "Save"-button again.

It is working great actually.

:)

well, what I would find more interesting is a field at which I could enter... say 100 or 500 URLs and the system automatically creates the Link-Entries while I am sleeping.

:sleep:

Whilst it does work when submitted the form, the user has no knowledge/understanding of this.

Agreed, either this must be A) documented by a help text or B) the immediate autofill comes into play and of course I like option C) : To have BOTH.... ;)

A few suggestions (for v2.1?) :)

Could we please have an admin option to not have images in the sidebar? I tried setting the image size to 0(zero), thinking that might do it, but it just reset it back to 24 and continues to display them. I find that the sidebar images are too small, and thus not of any use.

Also, would like admin options to, when creating links, for 'Create Thread' , 'Watch this thread...', and 'Image Type' to be defaulted.

Yes Please! :cool:

@Mouth

could you please elaborate a bit more in detail, what you are exactly looking for with your point made above ?

Thx.

Tested it. The flexibility is very great now.

I have only some thoughts to the Grid Views in the Directory and the Sidebar. Rather than having fixed width, it would be great to have percentual width, that are influenced by how much container (directory index) or thumbnails (sidebar widget) I want to insert. So everytime the containers or thumbnails expand to the full width available divided by the number of containers/thumbnails.

This is handled very great with the Media Gallery (see screenshot)

One screwing around with fixed pixel widths generates results that are not so beautiful.

"XF Media Gallery" is crappy design.
Have a look at Pinterest... and you will understand why.

For example, I would like to default the 'Create Thread' option to ticked, so that a thread is always created for new links added. There is User Group Permission of 'Has a choice whether or not a thread to be created:' but this only gives the user the choice, or removes the choice altogether (and no thread is created). An ACP optionthat the choice can be removed, and a threead is always created.

Agree (y)

what do you guys think about having other items in the "Sub-Nav-Bar" (similar to the XF-RM) ?
Does it make sense or is it redundant ?

- Search Links
- Recent Activity (for "Links" only)
- Watched Categories (watching a certain Link-Category)
- Watched Links
- New Links
- New Posts (when you click on "New Posts", it will show all "Links" which have a new post in the associated Forum-Thread)
