Just wanted to say good to be back and I love Xenforo and the community

Normally I don't type posts like this but in this case I do :D

To keep it short, alcohol addiction caught up to me for a few years wasting so much time and leaving so many projects half build which I feel in my heart will be successful if I just stay focused.

It also brought financial misery so badly I couldn't even afford, though cheap, renew my license.

So I've been experimenting with all the free ones, phpbb, mybb, bbPress, Vanilla forums (their premium is $689/month wth they been smoking?!!), but honestly and respect to the open source one, for me, compared to XF they all suck hard!

Some of their communities were ok but I still find the XF the best when it comes to solving issues and reaction time.

Now I'm sober I'm totally focused on my projects again and ready to kick ass.

So thank you XF and community.

Ps: I can still DL the version I used last but it's quite an old version by now, 2.2.12, could I use it and upgrade to latest in a week when I get my vacation money or will it cause big issues?

but do you already have an active forum that you want to migrate or are you thinking of starting a new forum today?

I finished my previous forum but I migrated all my sites to one server and something went wrong with migrating the forum so I have to start over again. I guess what you want to say, better to start with the new version :)
 
@Cannabis Ape Well done for facing your demons and winning, it takes great courage and fortitude to do battle with your inner-self. You're right about XF too, and the amazing community it has created. More good things to come and something for you to look forwards to. All good wishes for your projects and I hope they do as well as you have done. Good one!

I'm running a forum on 2.2.8 PL 2... you will be fine.

Focus on sobriety.

Focus on content.

Content will keep you sober.

Content will also bring users.

Users will keep you sober by constantly having to deliver content.

Find a way to recover an old database, starting a forum from scratch today is very difficult to get going

It will be fine ;) the forums have barely any competition plus I'm a bombass marketer among other things plus I like to build from scratch. My dating site build from scratch also and getting more and more people each month. I see a forum the same as my dating and 18+ sites and ecom sites,; as a business and a business needs hard work to grow but it will grow :)
