XF 2.1 Is there a way to programmatically create posts from the backend?

Is there a way to run a script in the backend which then sends messages to the XF system periodically and creates new posts as a result? What would be the part of the XF system that needs to receive the message? Is it just a case of adding new entries to the database in the correct tables?

You could look into how XF2 handles the RSS imports, that should get you pointed in the right direction.

Does the XF2 system only pull RSS from external sources? Or is there some kind of interface where I can send something like json including the correct forum, title/subject etc and have it post there?

I've been researching for a while now but haven't found much about it so far tbh
