Is there a way to manually order the user groups instead of alphabetically?

We have quite a large number of usergroups on our forum (we're using it as a forum for our college students),
and when adding a new forum we find the search for the more common user groups needed (administrative, moderating, registered etc.) quite tedious.

Is there a way to add a display order for the more common user groups or even an option to add them to "my favorites" (and thus display them right at the top of the list...)?

There is nothing built in for that.

The user group names are only seen by the admin. So you can simply put a number in front of the secondary user group names to have them sort by number.
