Is there a good way to run an article/blog-based site on Xenforo?

I would like to create a heavily community-focused website that has a front page with news articles. Can XenForo, with or without addons, support that type of setup, with the blog kind of being the "front" of the site?

I saw there is a portal plugin like this: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/xf2-8wr-xenporta-2-portal-pro.6023/
Well i think one can definitely run without any addons. XenForo Forums already support Articles type threads.

We are running the same. Rest all work is completely done in the theme. It looks completely like a news/blog/articles website.

Rest homepage and all can be developed using XF widgets.

Also, I should note, that Xenforo has article threads now.

And not only that, but you could just post your article content in any thread you want.

Then get the addon that displays the thumbnail as fb:og image and you'd be fine.

It's really what you're comfortable doing and how you want your work flow to be - and how you want your interactions with readers to be as well.

In would recommend using the stock xenForo article system, then evaluate what is missing/wrong before deciding on an addon. And then what is the best addon to give you what you find lacking. I’ve been quite happy using the xenForo articles and very simple addon for home page carousel.

This is how I approached it when I was looking at taking over the site where I post my stories. Stories are, after all, a type of article in Xenforo terms. And if all I wanted to do was post stories and let people comment and react on them, XF article forums (which were new at the time) would have been enough. But to replicate other features of the site I was taking over, like a rating system and running competitions, I would have needed custom anyhow. So I ended up talking to @Bob about using his AMS. The project fell through in the end since the owner decided to keep the site after all, but I was able to piece together a fairly good plan for a XF-based replacement with AMS.
