XF 2.0 Is it worth styling for the 1.x development branch?

Hi everyone! :)

I'm a style developer, specialising in phpBB but I'm keen to expand into XenForo. So far I've bought my license, and that's pretty much it.

I noticed that whilst 1.5.x is the current development branch, 2.0x has reached second beta.

Say I've got a couple of styles I'm intending to convert. Do you think it's worth the time developing for 1.5x, or is 2.0x close enough that I might as well be an early adopter and develop exclusively for this?

Thanks!

Welcome @MhW !
XF2 has not yet been released. It will take at least a year before most of the larger addons are available for XF2. This is why some boards are still migrating to XF1 and why many do not expect to be able to use XF2 this year or maybe not even the next.

There is market for XF1. But it will decline in time. I dont know how long you need to convert your styles. It all depends on this.

My feeling would be that most people looking to update their site will now hold off for XF2. It might not be "close" but it's also hopefully not that long off now.

Getting some decent styles out now for XF2 might be a good business decision as lots of the existing developers will be busy porting their XF1 designs (and their custom work) so I suspect we might not see much "new" for a while from the established people.

Could of course be completely wrong :-)

Cheers boys. Yeah I opted to pool my learning resources into 2.0.x .

Did something similar when phpBB was about to upgrade 3.1 to 3.2 and it had positive results, so would anticipate the same again.

Appreciate your input!
