XF 1.4 Is it possible to mass change attachments?

I'm using png files as attachments on promoted threads but the png files arent optimised for size. Is it possible for me to just drag and drop the optimised PNG files via ftp onto the relevant directory and overwrite the old PNG files rather than having to individually delete and re-upload each attachment?

The optimised files will have the same name and file type so it would just be a question of 'overwrite'

I'm not sure where to find the attachments, what directory, etc.

Is this possible?

It's not that simple as the file names in the directories are obfuscated and the file size is stored in the database.

So first you would need to identify each attachment by cross referencing the database tables, then overwrite it, then update the database.
