What is the best solution to have Worpress with Xenforo?

Do I create a: mydomain.com/ worpress directory ? or worpress -mydomain.com I don't understand the difference between the two? (under domain or in directory) FYI, it is for a new installation.

The blog already exists but I don't know if I should put it in a directory or in a sub-domain (both will be independent). For example for referencing, would it be better in a sub-domain or not?
