In "Article" type threads, when viewed in "extended article" mode, the date of the first post is very close to the thread's publication date.
XenForo uses two dates in the thread view; one for the thread itself, and one for each individual post.
Therefore, according to this reasoning, even the first post of the thread has its own date, and except in special cases, its date matches the date of the thread in 99% of cases. Hence, I believe that it is neither visually nor informatively useful to present two closely spaced dates.
In my opinion, the solution would be to move the date to the author's div.
And why not also move the Share and Bookmark buttons closer to the Jump to new, Unwatch buttons...
This way, the article's image would also be at the top of the message-inner div, providing a more pleasing view in article display mode.
