Implement Tenor as a replacement for / alternative to GIPHY

GIPHY may start charging for the use of their API so going forwards we will consider Tenor as either an outright replacement for GIPHY or an optional alternative to it.

is there a "downloader" for giphy links ?

steps
(1) download the .gif
(2) attach it to the relevant post
(3) remove ? the giphy link ?
(4) prevent giphy linking going forward ?
(5) use google image search to change giphy links to tenor links ?

@AndyB didn't you have a "downloader" as I outlined above (going by memory)(couldn't find one)(not sure what the name would be).

The costs would be for the continued use of the API, and not retroactive. Existing content would not be affected.

I'm glad I've never enabled it. But I also approve of finding another provider if Giphy's licensing is going to go bat-poop crazy, for those who want it.

That wasn’t what I said, but Reddit’s choices appear to be working for Reddit, in spite of what this means for everyone else. I agree screwing over the little guy isn’t the answer, but it is now completely normal.

I don't know if it's possible and/or easy, but the ability for us to change the GIF provider (either as a menu selection or a form to fill in API details) might help with the issue in the future.
