Hi all,

Trying to plan a new site that will use XF as the base site but needs to have a conventional home page with flexibility to host multiple forms of information.

If you've got a suggestion, please also provide a link to the live site to show how it looks in practice.

Sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum.

Thank you!
Bart

There are multiple portal/news add-ons available.

https://xenaddons.com/products/article-management-system.12/ (demo)
https://xenforo.com/community/resources/xf2-8wr-xenporta-2-portal-pro.6023/

I'm partial to either AMS (Article Management System) or News Publisher. Both are fantastic. If you want complete control, pick AMS.

Still looking for examples of modern, non-forum looking sites with xenforo built in, not sure how to do it or what I'm looking for but I'll know it when I see it! Here's an emoji to keep everyone motivated 🕺

Thanks!

Why non-forum looking? If your site is a forum, why try to disguise it?

In answer to the question my site has what I would call a “conventional home page” which I’ve tried to make work well as a home page, although making it useful has been more of a priority than making it modern.

A forum can be a feature and that feature isn't necessarily useful if your audience has to learn your mission, the fundamentals of your cause, your strategy, etc. before deciding to support your cause and then to actively discuss the details in a semi-public forum. For someone who arrives at your site with a shared motivation, sure, let them go right into the forums and jump into the action. For what I'm doing though, visitors to the site have a lot to learn and I have a high hurdle to get them over before they'll feel any need or desire to engage with like minded people in a forum. So the forum is an integral part of the plan but I'm not assuming anyone visiting the site will be attracted to it without some work on my part first.

The new site will be the home of New Jersey Coalition For Democracy Reform, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit. We are working to construct a positive, sensible vision for efficient governance in NJ by reforming how we fund and manage the powers of our state democracy.
