I read manual: Install XF and new database

I read the manual about the installation. I am new to XF and I am wanting to purchase XF at some point very soon. I need to move away from PHPBB.
Now my question is that in the installation manual, I am surprised that XF does not ask you to create a new database first.

When XF is in the process of being installed, doesn't it need a database to "write to" ? I am sure that in the setup process, the software is going to ask what is the database name and the credentials that go along with it.

I could not post this in the other forum because I am yet a customer, but I am a yet to be a customer soon.

You need to create a database, yes.
