XF 2.0 How to require new members to post in Intro node

Good morning World o' Xenforo

In returning to the life of a site host I'd like to set things up so that all new members must post an intro thread in the New Member Introductions sub-node. These threads will be moderated and will require two-step verification. The plan is todelete all zero-post accounts every six months or so to keep our member list clean and to hopefully eliminate spam from reaching the other nodes.

At first I thought I'd put newly registered members in a Zero Post Registered usergroup and then add them to the Registered usergroup via a "promotion" after their first post in the New Member Introductions node.

But is there a way to limit permissions for Registered users until after their first post and then simply change their permissions while keeping them in the Registered usergroup?

I saw somewhere where it was explained that this can be done using existing functionality but didn't see an explanation as to what is the most efficient way to accomplish this.

Keep all members in Registered as primary group. Take away writing permissions except for one node for this group. After promotion, add a secondary group which gives back writing permissions. https://xenforo.com/xf2-docs/manual/groups-permissions/

If I set permissions for the Category node will they propagate to all of the child nodes?

Thanks for the suggestion Andy but I think I've got it set up.

Just trying to disable two-step verification now. /
