How to identify if a user is banned?

How can the members make out whether a user is banned?

Add them to a banned user group with appropriate title and styling.

There is also a banned avatar add-on.

I don't think they can. I suppose an admin could change their usertitle to "banned" which would serve as an indicator or apply a banned rank or something.

nope (if i understood you correctly)

They're not by normal members.
When viewing a thread though, members have no idea whether other members are banned from their avatar or membercard.

The only way to do so automatically is with banned user group styling.

They are if you search from members page. Also their posts are visible and you can visit profile from there.
