XF 2.2 How to get "trending" threads via api

the API documentation doesn't seem to have a flag for grabbing the trending threads on either the threads endpoint or any other endpoints that I could see. Does anyone know if the API supports that?
 
What is a trending tread? What makes him to a trending thread?
Where this info is saved, that a thread is a trending thread?

I thought this needs an add-on, that calculates some data and save thread_ids that are trending?
