How can I change a forum / node title without it changing the search engine friendly URL ?

Just change the Node title, and the url will be updated to reflect the change and will stay in that format.

When you change a node title, the url will change.

The only way you can keep it the same is if you define a custom route for the node which is one of the options when editing the node.

thanks, that would work if the URL Portion option allowed me to insert a dot .
