XF 2.0 How safe is xenforo ?

I'm curious if there are measures in place to prevent a third party addon from accessing user data. Are there measures built in to protect the user?

No. An addon has an access to all users data. Just as XenForo engine does.

So I would not recommend installing addons from suspicious sites, unless you can't open them and look for "illegal" code yourself.

Installing addons from this forum or buying them on popular user's sites should be safe.

Xenforo itself is quite secure, much more secure than most other forum software. By installing a third party plugin you are essentially giving your house keys to an unknown person and trust them that they will not do anything malicious.

Giving granular permissions like mobile apps is not applicable.
