XF 2.3 How can we allow readers to View thread, but require login to read replies?

Did I miss a setting somewhere?

I'd like to allow users to view the thread as a guest, but not see any replies unless they login first.

kinda like requiring folks to login to see the comments etc...

From a search engine perspective, this is not a good idea.

I don't believe this can be configured out of the box..

All you need to do is set the View thread content to no for that node/user group.

looks very nice, but can the user still read the first post? I want people to see the first post, but have them login to read/write replies. thx

You’ll lose a lot of your search engine traffic if you block off your content, but if you don’t want traffic from the search engines, then I understand.

They still index replies.

You can do this via template edits as well. For example i only let adblock users(members or guests) only see the first post in a thread. All other posts are blurred.

now that sounds cool. I'd like to do it for all guests, mostly bc some of my readers say things they shouldn't, so adsense doesn't like that. Have any other info or tips on how to accomplish this?

Sure ill pm when near a comp. If i dont respond within a couple of days just remind me. Its a template mod via post_macros from memory. I used chatgpt to create it

I doubt Adsense will like displaying ads on pages it cannot access so you may better off also removing ads from the replies.

What hes asking for is pages to be accessed, and posts shown but anything besides the first post on page to be blurred/content hidden.

I know that’s why I mentioned removing ads from replies.
